Lapping Film for MPO, MTP, SC, LC, FC, ST, and MU Patch Cord Connectors
XYT Lapping Film is designed for high-precision polishing of fiber optic connectors, including MPO, MTP, SC, LC, FC, ST, and MU types. It ensures excellent surface quality, low insertion loss, and high return loss, making it ideal for telecom, data center, and high-speed communication applications.
Key Features:
- Micron-Graded Abrasives: Provides a uniform and consistent polishing result.
- Optimized for Multi-Fiber & Single-Fiber Connectors: Ensures precision for MPO/MTP and SC, LC, FC, ST, MU.
- High Durability & Stability: Extends polishing film lifespan and maintains performance.
- Available in Multiple Abrasive Types:
- Diamond: For aggressive stock removal and precise geometry control.
- Silicon Carbide (SiC): For controlled polishing on ceramic ferrules.
- Aluminum Oxide (Al₂O₃): For final finishing with excellent surface smoothness.
- Final Polishing Film (SiO₂): For the ultimate ultra-smooth finish.
- Flock Pile Film: Designed for MT/MPO polishing, ensuring a uniform end-face finish.
- Available in Various Grades: From coarse to ultra-fine (e.g., 30µm to 0.01µm).
- Backing Options: With or without PSA (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive).
Applications:
- MPO/MTP Connector Polishing: High-precision polishing for multi-fiber ferrules.
- SC, LC, FC, ST, MU Connector Polishing: Consistent end-face quality for single-fiber connectors.
- Patch Cord Manufacturing & Rework: Ensures industry-standard performance.
- Fiber Optic Network Deployment & Maintenance: Enhances transmission efficiency.
Fiber Optic Polishing Processes
The fiber optic polishing process consists of multiple steps using different types of polishing films:
Step 1: Epoxy Removal (Rough Polishing)
- Purpose: Removes excess epoxy from the ferrule surface.
- Polishing Film: 9µm or 15µm, 30µm Diamond or Silicon Caribde Lapping Film.
- Process:
- Apply moderate pressure.
- 30-60 seconds of polishing on a hard rubber pad.
Step 2: Ferrule Shaping (Intermediate Polishing)
- Purpose: Shapes the fiber end-face for optimal geometry.
- Polishing Film: 3µm Diamond or Silicon Carbide Film.
- Process:
- Reduce pressure slightly.
- 15-30 seconds of polishing.
- Use a softer rubber pad for controlled ferrule curvature.
Step 3: Pre-Final Polishing
- Purpose: Refines the fiber surface before final finishing.
- Polishing Film: 1µm Aluminum Oxide or Diamond Film.
- Process:
- Apply light pressure.
- 10-20 seconds of polishing.
- Use a medium-soft rubber pad for smooth transition.
Step 4: Final Polishing (High-Precision Finishing)
- Purpose: Achieves a near-perfect fiber end-face with minimal scratches.
- Polishing Film:
- 0.05µm or 0.02µm Final Polishing Film (Silicon Dioxide).
- Flock Pile Film for MPO/MT Ferrules.
- Process:
- Apply minimal pressure.
- 10-15 seconds of polishing.
- Use a soft polishing pad.
Step 5: Cleaning & Inspection
- Purpose: Ensures no residue or contaminants remain.
- Process:
- Clean with lint-free wipes and isopropyl alcohol.
- Inspect under a fiber microscope (200x or 400x).
- Verify ferrule geometry and end-face quality using interferometers.
3. Quality Control & Standards
Polished fiber connectors are tested against industry standards:
- IEC 61300-3-35: Ensures proper end-face geometry.
- Telcordia GR-326: Establishes reliability standards for optical connectors.
- Insertion Loss (IL) & Return Loss (RL) Testing:
- IL should be < 0.3dB for single-mode, < 0.5dB for multi-mode.
- RL should be > 55dB for UPC, > 65dB for APC.
